Care Package update

I sent Mark a box of educational materials for distribution to the children in the area and then I sent him an e-mail to let him know they were on the way. I ask about the boxes we sent from the Boy Scouts.

"I suspect you have probably passed out most of the other packages. Hope everyone enjoyed them. I'll bet you're quite the hero. Do they call you "Captain Santa Claus" these days?"

Mark's answer.....

No but the soldiers were very glad to get the boxes. I gave several more boxes to soldiers that were on a convoy. They were all excited to get them.

Thanks puting together a box of school supplies.

Care Packages and other things.

I got several messages from Mark in the past two days. I'll combine them all in one posting.

As usual, my comments are in italics.

Mark was on R&R when the packages we sent arrived. We sent him 39 boxes.

I have gotten all the packages. I have given about 15 of them out.

Thanks,

Mark

I thanked Mark for letting us serve those that were serving for us.

No I just want thank you all for your support of all us over here. Plus your help with the blog. The guys on my team have really enjoyed the care packages. I just gave 10 more out to the Fuelers, the soldiers that fuel the helicopters and the generators on the camp.

Thanks,

Mark

Some friends at my church got the message that I sent out about Mark wanting some school supplies. They were sending 2 or 3 boxes out today. I told Mark to be expecting them.

John

That is great. If people have things they want to send that date is just a time line. I still might get the packages in time to get them delivered. I am sure anything that is sent as long as they are marked school supplies the new team will be able to take the stuff to the school.

My rotary club gave us 250 to buy black boards for a school. So we are going to go and put up 5 black boards along with chalk for the schools.

Thanks,

Mark

While Mark was on R&R the care packages arrived at his FOB (Forward Operations Base.) He got an e-mail from the FOB that they had received 10 bags of mail that day. I guess that was an unusually high number of bags. Here's Mark's comment about what he found when he got back to his FOB.

I don't know how many bags but all the boxes were setting on my bed when I got in.

Scout-O-Rama

Just as the rains were about to hit Louisville I dropped Mark a note about the weather.

Well there have been several good weekends for scout-O-Rama the last several years. It was just a matter of time before geting another nasty weekend.

Just went to a mall. It was just like a mall back home. Everything cost about the same if not more. Most all the stores were just about the same.

Any how talk at you later.

R&R report

We had a great time at the Beach. Got to ride a camel. That was fun.

The water was warm. They took us to a private beach where they were only western people.

They had a little picnic for us and then we tried to get some sun.

Any how catch you later.

Care packages

For those that were not involved in the "Care Packages for the Troop" project that we did at the Klondike Derby, we sent 7 packages to Iraq and a bunch more to Mark to distribute to the troops he is serving with. I got the following after midnight Friday night / Saturday morning.

John I got an email saying the packages were in. They said I got 10 bags of mail.

Don't know if that was total bags for everyone or just me. Any how I think the mail is at my FOB now.

Have gotten to take a few days pass in Doha Qatar. All is going well. Got to go and eat at an Irainan restraunt.

The food was good. I wonder if they took us there to try to get us used to eating the food.

Any how everything is going well I have walked so much here I have a blister on both feet.

Like normal there are more soldiers than there are tours for. So we haven't gotten to get off post much yet.

We should be down under a 100 days. Still don't know when we are going to leave Afghanistan. But most of the guys talk about the # of days everyday and debate on when.
